Fred,
I have just checked the thread of the rear light cluster on my S4 Elan. The thead that holds the cluster to the car is 2BA on my car. These are replacement light clusters supplied by Sue Miller. BA is a thread system popular with electrical component suppliers prior to metrification, for that reason, I guess 2BA is an original size.
The last BA fasteners I bought came from Stig Fasteners www.a2stainless.co.uk phone 01325 464243

Hi,
Not to upset the apple cart BUT on the series 3 rear lights the fixing is 3/16 unf also known as 10/32.
2BA = 31.4 TPI 3/16 unf = 32 TPI. Catches a lot of people out. 2BA will start but progressively gets tighter and if forced can snap off the studs.
Ps. buy both.
FWIW
Ron.

Craven,
Thanks for the information. I tried a 2BA, and it went right through, but then at such a small pitch difference, that should not surprise me, and of course the Unified Thread System was popular when our cars were new.
