Hello folks
I need help to identify a component attached to my sprint dashboard wiring loom, see photograph.
It appears to have two contacts inside a plastic end cap of sort of Switch, but ive no idea what its for or what it looks like. Any help would be appreciated
Bob

Is this a new loom or the old one? If it is a new loom ask the supplier. Wire colours are always useful, green is ignition switched.

It is the top part of the rear brake lights switch. Snaps onto another piece with a spring loaded button that when the brake is depressed switches the lights on. This is the same as on my S4.

yes, ths is the original loom, removed in late seventies. Thought it must be part of a switch or something. does anyone know what it should look like, know where I can get one, or even have a spare for sale?
regards
Bob

Have a look at the photos in this link

It should give you an idea of what the switch looks like. I have seen them for sale somewhere, if the grey cells come up trumps I will let you know.

As found on the forum and on the net (the original switch is a bit flimsy and gets split easily when one fiddles underneath the dash) :

You can fit it back in place but you need to find the brass washer that acts as the contact between the 2 tags.
What i do is refit back in place and put a Ty Wrap around the outside of the body to stop it popping out again.
You can make a new brass disc very easily with a hole in to slide over the nylon plunger.
It's great fun fitting with your head down in the footwell and a torch held in your mouth

They are standard switch, mini I believe, from the time and available new from all the usual Lotus suppliers (and various other classic car part suppliers) for not very much money.

Are you sure the other part is not still attached above the brake pedal in the footwell. Difficult to see the way they are tucked away

Hi Alan,
The pedal box is sitting on my bench stripped and repainted ready to go back....except .....no stop light switch. Thanks anyway. I know it will be fun up there in the deep dark confines, i'll have the good lady on standby to prize me out when fitting time comes! :?

Bob,
While you have the pedals assembly out, have you considered moving the clutch and brake pedals to the left to give more room for your feet.
I did this and think it is one of the most effective mods that I have done. It doesn`t need much and makes a big improvement with no chance of pressing two pedals at once with my big feet.
I wrote it up on here. Search for `Pedal spacing` if you are interested.
I do not want to hijack your topic, but others have said they wish they had known while the pedals were out.

If you move the pedals that means you can't heel and toe pretending you're a top driver

Alan, I did not notice any difference with that. It is only half an inch.
lets not steal this thread though. Please put any more thoughts on the original `pedal spacing` thread or start another one.
Cheers
