Dear All
Once again I find myself musing on a topic and struggling to find a definitive answer on t'interweb so perhaps you can help me?
My current S4 S/E FHC restoration is underway and I am not sure what is correct in terms of these lights.
This is what is there now:

and dates from 1980 at the latest as that is when the car last saw the light of day or action on the tarmac.
But I have seen these with chrome bases also Sparto and so am not sure if I should restore these or go for ones with chrome surrounds that I have in my box of bits for the finale of attaching shiny bits!

Opinions sought....

Best

John

Hi
Its more the black plastic base versus a chrome base. Not sure what is most original for a 1968 early S4.

Pic attached of 1969 S4 before restoration - looks like chrome base, no switch.
AFAIK - unobtanium

Foxoles thanks for that I rather thought they might be chrome bases.

Happy to say I have 2x NOS unobtanium in my box of shiny bits picked up over time but interestingly they have switches as in the plastic!

Cheers

I'm afraid that only the non switched lights are the ones made of unobtanium...

Now I have both switched and non-switched in chrome and that once again puts me in somewhat of a quandary ........

Which is correct for 36/8486?

Early S4 SE with S3 type crash pad vent.

both my '68 type 36 (a couple hundreds under yours) came with non switched lights... but if you'd rather have the more convenient switched ones :) , I'd be happy to unload you of the non switched (pm for conditions)

Non switched chrome base on my 36/8555. What you have probably depends on what cheap job lot Lotus could buy at the time.

Cheers Rohan  I think the sentiment is spot on!

That leaves mine firmly between two "roses" with chrome and no switch.

So I guess that is the way I will go too.

Thanks for all the responses.

Cheers

As per my post some months ago......a non switched item is required for my S2 rebuild, pretty please.

Hi
Sorry for late reply but have been away. At the moment I am going to hang on to both types until I make a final decision when it comes to refitting to my car. As I said at the moment I am favouring the non switched for my car.

John
