I strip about twice the length of the crimp 'tunnel' spin the strands together then fold the bare wire in half and push that into the crimp tunnel, then crimp the tunnel as close to the front as possible and a second time next to that first one, then I crimp the insulation at the back end of the connector so that that insulation holds the insulated wire securely and prevents fatigue failure of the inner wires.

You are partly right & I was partly wrong :D

It does move, but not at the rate I mentioned, it moves with the baseplate as it advances and retards, so not quite 2x6500 times per minute, but to & fro as you accelerate & decelerate.

This is wrong too  see below.

Yes, base plate fixed. Advance and retard is on the dissy shaft with the springs and bob weights.
The Pigtail doesn't move.

Oops you are right.

The 4-corner cam moves relative to the shaft under the effect of the weights moving out. So the points remain fixed relative to the Distie case.

Oh well it is quite a while since I last had my distie off the engine.

I have tried swapping pints

Seldom a good idea. Ale and motor oil just don't taste the same. And yer engine likely feels the same way.

Not a bad idea if you want to talk about BHP at the Flywheel while drinking HSB
