I was putting the turn indicator switch back in the steering column on my S2 when this black spring-metal gizmo ('Ground Circuit Contact', see photo) popped out from that area--have no idea where it goes. I've looked in the archives and there isn't any mention of it that I could find. The 'pencil' horn contact for the hot side of the steering wheel horn circuit, yes.

I think this black spring-metal bit is on the ground side of the horn circuit. Looks like it's supposed to be a brush contact to connect the inner steering column to the outer steering column. But I can't find where it goes. Is it familiar to anyone? It would be great if the pictures could be clicked on to make them bigger--the file size I provided them would have allowed it. The one caption says "Spring fell out of here somewhere", the other "Turn Indicators Switch".

Pretty sure that clip has fallen out of the indicator switch,their should be two of them to return the switch to a central position when you straighten the steering, they are operated by that clip you can see around the steering column. The earth for the horn is from the column, have you fitted a wire strap across the universal joint at the bottom of the column?

Normand, good call, thanks. Both of the retainer springs had popped out of my indicator switch, so I didn't realize they were missing. A clue would have been that the indicator switch would not hold in a selected left or right turn position on its own. As soon as you let go of the stalk, it returns to the off/neutral position. Another clue was that I tested my horn and it was working....

I tried to add a photo of the switch with the springs installed, but the server keeps rejecting it, not sure why.

Clicking pictures is supposed to make them bigger, but it seems that it doesn't work anymore, on Firefox on Mac OSX (Sierra). If works oK on Firefox on Mint 18.1.

I will try a few more browser combinations and add them here...

It works OK on Safari on MacOSX

works fine on Google Chrome

It also fails in Firefox on Windows 10, but I have discovered that you can access the bigger photo by doing a right-click on the displayed smaller photo and then select "Open Link in a new Tab".
