Dash Harness Bulb Holders

Hi All,

I have my new S3 dash and am fitting the new harness.

The harness was from PM and is good but the telltale bulb holders are a different design. That is a good thing as the old type were a dodgy and the reason I am changing the harness.

The question is which bulbs fit the new holders, and where can I get them?

Left one looks like a bayonet fitting the other looks like Edison screw.

Take advantage and fit some small LED bulbs instead, brighter and will last forever.

The are called capless bulbs, should be available at any auto electrical supplier.

Following Brian's post I've taken a closer look and think he might be right. As its a Matty loom what do they say.

Simon,

These are what I'd fit -?7.45 delivered for 10 -0.5w 12v LED (they should be roughly equivalent to 4/5 watts so a bit brighter and virtually indestructible):

Hi Simon.

I like the idea of LED dash lamps. But the LED units you show will not fit in dash loom sockets, without some kind of adaptor, whatever it might be. How are they mounted?

Endorse the use of LEDs in the dash - apart from the charge warning light. I believe this needs to be a filament bulb. Not sure why, but I have been 'told' this! Any electrical whizzes know why??

The alternator field windings need it for excitation, self excitation requires much faster reciprocating movement  :D

Thanks for all the comments.

I have tried the capless sidelight bulb from a modern car - It fits. So I will order the correct wattage.

The new sockets are only on the telltale lights so will stick to normal bulbs.

Sorry to join the thread so late.

They are the same holders as mine. I have just changed over to LEDs from bettercarlighting.co.uk. Very pleased with the results. Give Gil (the owner/sales & engineer) a call. He was very helpful in identifying the correct bulbs for my needs. He also helped with advice on the wiring for my indicators. No relation, just a satisfied customer.
