Passenger Side Indicators Constantly IIlluminated

I've just been getting my 1973 Elan+2 S/130 back on the road after being laid up for three years.

Upon fitting a new battery the passenger side indicators are permanently on, without flashing, and even before putting the ignition key in. I'm suspecting flasher unit(s) and will probably change both the hazard unit and the indicator unit. Are they both the same for this model?

It will be a dodgy earth somewhere. First port of call take off battery ground and clean up,reseat and cover in Vaseline.

I agree with Steve, an earthing problem. Something is using the indicator bulb as a route to ground, hence lighting the bulb.

I've had this on my car but only when the side lights were on, the side light was earthing through the indicator circuit/bulb because because of a bad earth connection on the light.

Thanks for the replies, both front and rear passenger side indicator bulbs are lit, and the one on the speedo. Would that be the same problem, a bad earth from somewhere else?

I'm unsure as to what gets powered up as soon as the battery is connected, it's not like it happens only when the key is in.

Sort the battery main earth first and then report back.
