Hi Chaps,
I modified my heater as well. It is straightforward, but unless you want to steam clean the matrix and completely overhaul the thing, then it really is a bit of a fag getting it out.
Just go for a mechless unit - just fits straight in,no messing.

I'm interested in fit a better radio (Philps radio has bad reputation). Can someone show pictures from the heather modification?

Was looking at some old threads on this topic, and found this excellent dimensioned photo that shows the room available with the heater box completely removed. Shows how tight it really is.

I found several good threads on the heater modification details by going to the Photo Gallery tab (at the top of the forum page) and filtering on "Plus 2 heater". Brings up a few pictures of the process, and can easily go directly to the referenced threads.

Again, You don't need to modify the heater if you get a mechless unit.
the depth of the unit is so shallow it fits straight in.
