This may be heresy for the originality brigade, but I think there is scope for changing to blade fuses quite easily (and reversibly) by using Blade fuse carrier blocks which are dimensionally (almost) identical to the original ones. I have been plagued with corrosion and poor connections at the fuses, poor quality glass fuses and poor understanding of what loads are actually going through the fuses. There are some great purpose built ammeters for blade fuses which you can leave attached while you use the car to assess real world loads. Heck you can get blade fuses that light up and tell you they have just blown, or even re-settable circuit breakers instead.

Who is to know what fuses you have behind the dash panel, or under a black waterproof box under the bonnet.

Saw one at the birmingham LOG aftermarket dealer installed air, have pics, somewhere.

After a bit more poking around I realized that most of the engine compartment's harness is still intact. PO removed the starter and was trying to figure out how to install a gear reduction starter and an alternator at the same time. Not to mention removing one carb. He had two starter solenoids loosely connected, the original one that was suppose to be mounted to the firewall like my Elan and a more modern one. I found the new starter and the old Lucas in the trunk along with a Lucas Alternator. The Generator was still in the car half removed and disconnected. While I would have not cut a hole in the transmission tunnel to access the bolts for the starter, it does look like it would make fitting a bit easier, so I will end up cleaning up the hole and casting a fiberglass panel and make it removable with rivenuts. I also have ordered a new 2 fuse Fuse Box. Does anyone have pictures on where this is mounted to the firewall? Assuming it does mount to the firewall. I am looking for witness marks and can't find any. Thanks Allan

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that pic. Dryer unit? But where is the condensor? Don't see anything mounted in front of the rad . . .

you mentioned the harness was still intact. It should run straight down the fiberglass above the frame rail to the 3 relays near the hood hinge.

IF you dress it correctly you should find the hole or holes that the fuse box screws to.

Ok, so the fuse box is supposed to be screwed onto the left fender well. Can either of these two holes be the mounting position? Thanks Allan

Those will be the holes for the servo mounting plate. The fuse box would have been on the flat area next to the exhaust manifold near the back, in front of the bulkhead.

looks like there might be a small hole in the center of the area to the right of the pedal box. low res pic, but where a blackish wire is draped across the area

and the control box mounts where the washer fluid bottle is in the pick I posted.
