I have recently acquired an original Smiths 0 to 60lb oil pressure gauge for my 1968 Lotus Elan +2 which had previously been fitted with an incorrect capillary Smiths gauge. The trouble is I cannot locate the correct electrical sender to match the 0 to 60 lb Smiths gauge and I don't have the original sender to refer to. I have fitted a sender for a 0 - 100lb gauge but this gives an incorrect low reading. Can anyone tell me which sender I should be fitting and suggest where I can buy one.

Yes

Smiths Industries PT 1817/06 unobtanium...will shortly be trying to modify similar to work,most second-hand units are not serviceable as there are vibrating contacts inside ( similar to the instrument voltage regulator ) which burn out.

there is a 60psi sender for a Jaguar E type that is available and has the correct impedance, unfortunately the thread is incorrect for an LTC . I seem to remember a topic on here about it but of course the search function defeats me to find it

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I think the Daimler / Jaguar 1801/06 (C15474) is the way forward. I wonder if there is enough spare metal to re-tap the brass T piece into the block from 1/8 NPT to 1/4 BSP. Has anyone tried this?

Failing that I will try a 1/4 BSP female to 1/8NPT male adapter.

Picky...? Won't it work if adapted? Buy from Moss or another reseller and take a guarantee as well. New old stock is nice if you really need original.

Not being picky but

IMHO the sender has to be matched to the gauge for the readings to be anywhere near accurate..

Interesting, does that mean that gauges and senders were paired (setup together) originally?

If so it makes a nonsense of trying to buy a sender even an original if it's to be used as an uncalibrated item.

I gave up on the electrical pressure gauge years ago, I have a mechanical item that appears standard apart from reading up to 100psi, my LTC had a high pressure pump fitted and ran at60 psi hot as does my zetec.

Gauges and senders were not paired as such but the senders calibrated to match the senders "en masse",and as such sometimes the "intermotor " or other aftermarket senders are way out...

Any oil-fed gauge will probably read better,why do you need such high pressure,more is not always better..

60 psi hot is standard on a zetec. My LTC came with a steel bottom end and hp pump.
Consistent pressure is what's needed. If it drops then that's a cause for concern. The actual figure is irrelevant so long as it's flowing

Is that not standard then? The upright off the T piece has the low pressure warning sender screwed in the side and the oil pressure sender screwed into the top. It is this top thread that I will need to increase from 1/8NPT to 1/4BSP to accept the Jaguar pressure sender.
