Having bought into the Dynamator replica, it let me down within a couple of years and I wasn't able to get it serviced locally.

So, following the advice of others here, I went hunting for a little Denso. They're pretty pricy from the main vendors, especially after shipping to Ireland.

Found the 5A "lightweight" one on ebay http://www.ebay.de/itm/Generator-Neu-35A-Daihatsu-Cuore-II-Charade-II-III-Kubota-Weidemann-64672-/201562682885?hash=item2eee127605:g:1QQAAOSwiYFXEeR2, The Denso ref is 100211-4530. The 100211 spec are all a similar size. There's an 80A version with two mounting lugs, but I preferred the lower power.

Fitted it today, it is beautifully small, like a jewel. Weighed 6? lb (~3kg). Nice to have it fitted forward of the exhaust pipe, as my local auto electrician seemed pretty sure it was heat killed my Dynamator. It's the same simple two wire connection and it worked 1st time.

I'm still using the original dynamo bracket and adjusting strap, though I'm I'll have to do better. The lower mount on the Denso is a wide lug which sits forward of the front lug, so its weight is being borne by one side that single bracket lug. That seems like a receipe for a sheared bolt. The other snag was that the bolt hole is larger than the brackets M8, so I guess it'll shear even quicker.

The adjusting strap is barely long enough, belt seems too loose though working fine for the moment.

I used a coil wire cap over the V+ terminal to prevent accidental welding.
