S4 Window Switches

PostPost by: l10tus » Mon Jul 20, 2015 9:46 pm

Oh no!

Just broken the male brass contact off one of my window rocker switches !!!

Anybody know how to carry out a successful repair, or where a repair or replacement can be found Please ???

It's broken off flush with the plastic body - with nothing protruding to be able to solder to, (even )!

Dash out ??

Replies welcomed!

Phil.

Phil,
I think that the rocker switches are just about the only component which is unavailable. :(

A while back all the wise-heads on the forum were unable to come up with a source-car for these items, which was unusual as Lotus usually bought in components from major car manufacturers. I don't know if that has changed.

We were also unable to find a source of replacement parts; the set-up costs for a production run seemed too high, not least because there are several types of switches spread across the dashboard.

Good luck.

RD Enterprises here in US has them; I'm sure the usual suppliers over there have them, too.

I think it's the other way around... I had to relieve my dashboard for the metal at the side that supports the rocker pin. Not visible from the front...

RD's rockers only difference from the front is that they are nice & shiney & not all white & oxidized...

My usual repair for a broken off terminal is to carefully solder a piece of wire with a spade terminal on the free end to the rivet then sleeve as best you can with heatshrink. Use a good non-corrosive flux and high melting point solder. I've had to do this to a number of switches and haven't had a problem since - it also removes some of the stress on the wiring loom which is generally very tight behind the dash.
