Ignition cable order

I have had my engine rebuild, and have only driven it once. Worked great, thou i had a strange problem with getting my motor started after the first run. The Starter motor wouldn't cranck the engine. I found out that the earth strap between the engine and frame was loose. In the process of finding that fault, i had the spark plugs out several times, and now i can cranck the engine, i have spark, but i will not start. I may have switched the ignition cables around, and there fore i ask : What is the best way to figure out what order the cable should go from the distributer to the plugs.
I have read, that the firing order is 1342
But how du i know witch one is number 1 on the distributer?
I have Lumenition optical ignition.. Could that mess up the order?

Note the use of electrical tape to identify leads so that you don't go wrong in future.
