Hi all.

Can anyone recommend a place in the Uk to have the capillary replaced on my Sprints water Temp gauge? and any idea of the cost involved? The gauge is working etc but just looks a bit grotty.

Cheers.

Speedy Cables have been recommended on this forum, but I have no personal experience with them.

I'm just planning the routing of my Water temp capillary and was wondering how it was looped originally or is there a different/better way of preventing work hardening/cracking of the copper line?

I wish I knew the answer to that one too :)

I believe this is how it was originally run with a clip on the heater valve.

That looks like a good idea because the point of failure is where the tube enters the bulb and that arrangement holds that part rigid.

I can vouch for Speedy. They've done mine (twice over the years). Nice to deal with and always an excellent job with any Smiths stuff in my experience. Comes back like new.

types26/36, Thanks for the picture. Is there any chance you could take a better picture of the Clip on the heater valve please, from the picture it looks like its just a single edge pipe clip (bit like this http://www.jetpress.com/Products.aspx/d ... ng-Flared/)

Unfortunately it is not my car and it was some pictures I took several years ago at a show of a car that I believe had been restored to original specs.
I do know that cars did have a clip on the heater valve as I have heard it mentioned previously.
Here are a couple more pics although not much better but the best I have, I think the link to the the clip you have posted is probably correct or at least as near as you will get, maybe someone else on the forum has a car with the clip that they can post.

Looks like an ordinary plastic P - clip to me.

Thanks types26/36, i've just had a chat with my cars previous owner (the guy that took it apart) and he confirms there was a metal edge clip fixing the Capillary to the Heater valve, he said he couldn't remember exactly how it was routed apart from "it was fixed to one of the Chassis plate screws at one end and the Coolant valve at the other with a loop in the middle"

Seems the clip should look like this.
