Coil lead

PostPost by: GHill » Sat Jan 24, 2015 12:34 pm

Hi All

Can someone please confirm whether my dizzy to coil ht lead looks correct - I don't think so? The picture below shows the coil end and it just looks strange! I would have expected a plug type connection!

Cheers
Gareth

Never seen one like that.

Looks like it might be a resistor.

Thanks Bill

I'm new to all this - can you give me a little bit more context please? For example is there normally a plug?

Regards
Gareth

Mine has a sort of split brass tube with inward pointing spikes which has been squeezed onto the end of the cable to form a sort of plug.

You need one of these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HIGH-QUALITY- ... 462c6180b6 . It probably worked OK with the chewed up end making a contact as it was, but maybe not for long.

Hey Jim

Thanks - isn't that what I've got already? How does it work, do I put the copper wire next to it - or somehow overlap it to get a good connection?

Think it works like this...

Yes the one in the ebay link is the same as yours but it has been fitted the wrong way round on your cable, you bare the wires and then pinch them with the tagged end of the connection.
They are a rubbish fitting, the one that screws into the cable (later picture) is a much better type.

Thanks Brian - I prefer the screw fitting - it strikes me as a much better connection.

Just ordered this from ebay

Yes they work fine, some distributor caps also take that sort of fittings but if you have the original Lucas type it uses a screw inside the cap to go through the ht cable so you wont need more.
