Can anyone tell me the correct mounting position for the indicator flasher unit on an S4 Elan?

On a LHD Vehicle it's hanging loose near the bottom LHS of the Dash by the Headlight switches... Might be mirrored on a RHD Vehicle?

Attached is a photo showing the position of the flasher relays on a RHD car. They would normally be tucked up behind the dash/trim. Hope this helps

Yes, that is exactly mirrored.

Strange that they aren't attached to anything. Can't be great for rattles & sqeaks & would have saved some wire... (add lightness.)

Thanks for your help. It does seem a bit odd that they are not screwed to the rear of the dash, assuming there is enough room! I see the photo shows 2 flashers, is the other one for the headlamp flashing?

Mine is attached to the steering column mounting stud under there. In that picture above you can see the mounting tab with a drilled hole, this slips over the stud of the mounting 'U' type clamp of the upper column and then another nut screwed onto hold it . I don't know if this is original but it was defo like this when I got the car back in the 80's.

Oh just realised this question is about an S4, mine is an S3.

Ref. the second relay, I don't have a circuit diagram to hand but since nothing else flashes on the car it must be for the Headlights (unless the Hazard Warning relay is different to the Indicator one).

My thoughts regarding the Hazard Warning Relay were correct. I have just checked some photos of my engine bay and there is a flasher relay there are well, this will be for the Headlights (see below). The second flasher relay shown above is for the Hazard Warning Indicators. This was not fitted when I bought the car but with all the wiring and switch already in place, it was quite an easy mod to add.

Even the manual does not specify if it is attached.
