what coil to fit EI

PostPost by: alan » Sun Sep 28, 2014 5:44 am

if you remove the ballast resister and ballast coil to fit a normal coil what one is best.
I plan to fit Piranha Electronic Ignition and a 12V coil with 1.5 ohms to 3.0 ohms resistance.
I understand it is best to fit coil with at least 1.5 ohms resistance so as not to damage the EI.

I'm using Powerspark ignition and got a similar suggestion from them. I have a Lucas Sports coil with 2.8 ohm primary resistance and 8.7k ohm secondary. A new "standard" coil has 3.4 ohm primary and 6.7k ohm secondary. I had each of these in my stock of spares and measured each straight out of the box at normal room temperature. Hope this helps!
