Mystery yellow /blue trace wire in S3 coupe

PostPost by: robertverhey » Sat Aug 30, 2014 9:15 am

Nearly finished reconnecting everything, but this one connector in nose has me bamboozled. Yellow with blue trace and an earth (black) next to it. No mention of it in wiring diagrams for S1, 2, 3 or 4, and no previous mention on the forum.

Anyone know?

As I recall its one side of the headlight micro switch (other side is black) I believe it is show in the S1/2 wiring diagram (most of the S3's I have seen basically have the S1/2 wires) plus the electric windows of course.

It will be something specific to the vehicle (like the headlight switch) and not a standard vehicle electric part, the B.S.AU7 lists it as an overdrive wire so it would have been one of the stock cables held by the loom manufacturers but rarely used.

Hi thanks for replies, yes I think I've been caught out by the "hybrid" nature of my wiring, it's an S3 but the loom more closely resembles an S2 loom. That said, the S2 had two 6RA type relays and two spring actuated micro switches, one on each wheel arch. I can only find one in the S3 circuit diagram, and mine certainly only had one relay/ micro switch, on passenger wheel arch. Maybe it came out of the factory like that, or maybe a previous owner removed a micro switch/relay

Think I'll just leave the mystery wires as they are, that "flashing" feature always seemed a bit superfluous.

Fascinating cars, learning all the time.

My car has a similar hybrid loom. As I restored the car I created my own annotated diagram. I just don't recall where I put it.
