Dynamator ..Do they work?

Hi,
In the past various members have talked about fitting one of these to their cars. I just wondered how they were getting on with them, especially as they are about ? the price of the competitor...
Are they worth fitting or would it be better just to fit a small alternator?
I am still running a dynamo and only have issues when trying to run lights, heater, wipers and engine cooling fan at the same time .. :D. Does an alternator add any extra load to the waterpump?

Thanks Steve,

Tempting .... Wonder why the others are so expensive then?

My Elan has a new wiring loom, by the number of unused wires under the dash I would guess the wiring is for and Elan, drop head, coupe, US or UK spec. There are 'spare' connecters everywhere...

Hi folks,

after my question yesterday regarding dynamo-alternator options. Has anybody on here who have fitted the Dynamator had any issues with them or are they good. If they are no good I can dis-count them.

Thanks in advance

The MET guys use a few of them at work, so i've just inquired and the consensive is don't buy a Chinese ebay knock off get a good brand like Dynalite and they work exactly the same as a standard Alt but just look like a Dynamo (you would have to look very closely to tell the difference when fitted)

I believe these are the ones our place uses http://www.powerlite-units.com/about-dynalites/

Bit of a heads up though, make sure the cable between the Alt and the Battery has a high enough amp rating to handle the alt's output.
