Tachometer / Speedometer Thread Size

Anyone got their Tach or Speedo out of the car? I lost one of the knurled mounting nuts, but already have the dash back in place and forgot to measure the threads. My car is a '69 Plus 2, but assuming the mounting studs are the same for all models.

Thx

Stu

I think it's 3BA.

They are 3BA. At a pinch you can just run a tap down a 4BA nut and use a washer whilst you turn up a proper job :)

Stu,

I'm sure BA taps and dies aren't any more plentiful in Alberta than they are in Ohio.

The nuts will be the same on MGs and Triumphs, actully just about any British car from that era. So if you know of a breakers with an old Morris Minor or Standard 10, the nut off that will solve your problem. Good luck. And if your donor car is a Standard 10, I need some steering pieces.

Thanks Roger. I checked for a spare, and all I had was an incorrect sized nut from a refurbished gauge; different size for some reason. I have the gauge temporarily mounted with (I think) a 6-32 nut that 'sort of' fits.

Will ask my local Brit car specialists if they have one kicking about. With our climate here the breakers have long ago removed anything vaguely British in origin. :) At least I know trying our local bolt supplier or diving thru my junk box and taps is not going to be too profitable. :)

Cheers!

Stu

Been there, done that with the knurled nuts for the tach and speedometer. Try Metric & Multistandard Components Corp., in Hawthorn, NY. 914 769 5020/800 431 2792, metricmcc.com. They have all sorts of taps, dies, bolts, etc., and appropriate wrenches for British threaded components.

Old British electronic equipment is likely to have BA nuts & bolts in it.

I ordered 3BA instrument wheel nuts for this UK eBayer

Very pleased with the service and products provided over the years.
