My understanding is this switch cycles on at 73c, which would have the fan running most of the time.

Do you have a part number? There are several of us who could use one where ours have failed. My information came from a friend when I suggested he look into the one shown. Right now, I use the visual/manual system, one eye on the temp gauge and the hand ready to hit the bypass switch under the dash.

An Update, SNG Barrett (http://www.sngbarratt.com/stock a connector:
However, I am not convinced (yet) that Lotus used a connector.... All pictures that I have seen so far just look like 2 female bullet terminals with shrink wrap on top.

Hi All
Bit late to comment perhaps but ?15 for a 2 pin low voltage connector is a bit steep and I suspect is not original (for Lotus Elan that is) as I can't believe Mr C would have spent that sort of money on a connector. As one of the very early posts said a couple of bullet female connectors should do fine ( 5p each !). I used this on mine , see photo attached and it has been fine for last 2 years. I used my crimp tool to just pull down on the mating part a tad so it was a nice firm fit on the otter switch pins. Picture attached if that helps
cheers
