horn problems

PostPost by: a d price » Thu May 08, 2014 2:44 pm

Can anybody help with this?
The horn activates on left lock on occasions. I can move the steering wheel a couple of mill towards the driver. Took the steering wheel off and cleaned the brass ring. removed the horn push and the horn still activates without being pushed on left lock. Odd problem
Thanks Alun

Could be an Earthing issue. Check the little wire from the chassis by the steering rack to the base of the column & clean it's contacts.

Hi Alun

I had a similar issue. I increased the gap between the steering wheel hub and column by adjusting the
shaft connection at the footwell. Problem solved. I think the hub was touching the column due to my presssing on the wheel while making turns.

I had the same problem as pamitchell, I put a big plastic washer to increment the distance a bit.

On my Sprint it is usually the connector for steering column to steering rack that is a bit loose so the column can move upwards and gives the same effect as pushing the horn.
Its quite a common problem and an easy fix.
