Air horns are great for alerting a vehicle that doesn't see you down there. The only drawback is the delay from the time you jump on the horn button to the time the horns actually make noise. This is caused by the compressor coming up to speed and pressurizing the lines to the horns. This delay also limits the ability to produce a soft "beep, beep" that one often uses to alert another driver that the light has changed or he does not have his headlights on, etc.
I would actually like to replace the air horns with something more instantaneous if they were loud enough. LOUD being the operative word.

Do as I do, fit a little buzzer type horn in parallel to the air horn for town use. It makes an instant beep, which is then drowned out when the air horns start to make a noise.
