Horns don't work and are no good. They aren't the originals, so looking for best replacements. I know air horns are great, but was thinking of just getting some Hella horns. Any thoughts on replacement horns that you like?

Hi Russ, I fitted a pair of Lucas Windtone horns to my S2 around 2 years ago. I don't know if they are still available. They look very similar to the originals.
I got them from a UK company called Holden Vintage and Classic
Try googling www.holden.co.uk

Russ, are we still allowed to vote for air horns? :) I thought that is what the cars came with, or maybe varied by model? Anyway, I got a FIAMM set similar to this one locally...

I am planing to replace my standard setup with a compact air horn, as I wont have to find a mounting place for the compressor after my radiator change.

Rdent does a unit for $59.99. There also the "Bad boy unit" at Harbor freight at $39.99, not keen on the name but looks a good option:

Air Horns are fine. I think air horns weren't available until the S3/S4/Sprint time frame though. Here are the Hellas I was thinking of but I'm open to anything. The Lucas horns I found here in the states as well as reproductions.

I have had air horns on my S2 for 48 years since that 18-wheeler tried to run me off the road while I was full on the original "hooter." He never knew I was there. Air horns are great for alerting a vehicle that doesn't see you down there. The only drawback is the delay from the time you jump on the horn button to the time the horns actually make noise. This is caused by the compressor coming up to speed and pressurizing the lines to the horns. This delay also limits the ability to produce a soft "beep, beep" that one often uses to alert another driver that the light has changed or he does not have his headlights on, etc.

I would actually like to replace the air horns with something more instantaneous if they were loud enough. LOUD being the operative word.

Do as I do, fit a little buzzer type horn in parallel to the air horn for town use. It makes an instant beep, which is then drowned out when the air horns start to make a noise.

I ended up buying air horns. I've had them before and liked them. I'll eventually buy some stock or reproductions at some point just to have if the car ever goes back to stock.

Ebay UK about ?6 for a pair today and free delivery. Good idea Bill, which you suggested earlier, and I'm in there.
