My Sprint has the multi-way white plastic connector - that also has a couple of pins melted through the housing.

I have yet to see anyone be apportioned with the credit (blame....) for the electrical design of the Elan, but it really was dreadful.

Only the Steering Column left now; Been a busy winter... I have:

Replaced the crashpad (a ***ch of a job)
Rebuilt the Heater Fan motor (has not worked since I bought the car)
Rebuilt the windshield wiper motor & wheel boxes
Rebuilt the steering column with new bushes
Added Sun Visors back
Replaced the nasty generic loom connectors with a "correct" molex connector

Can't wait to drive it again...

Phil, could you elaborate on how you rebuilt the wheel boxes?

There's not really a lot that is needed / can be done - just a thorough strip down & regrease.

Unfortunately I managed to do a 180 degree on the wheel boxes when I re-assemble the wiper motor / shaft / wheel box assemblies:

Do NOT assemble like this!! Wheel boxes are 180 degrees out

It was difficult to assemble the wiper mechanism into the car even without the dash & wiring harness & after installing them the wipers went the wrong way onto the hood (bonnet)

After scratching my head for a day or two I realized that the wheel box wiper axis should be above the line of the wire, pulled the mechanism out & spun the wheel boxes 180 degrees & now everything works as designed.

This is a picture of everything assembled the right way:

Note the nice new multi-pin connector!

Closing the loop on this with more information on the original connectors.

Dick Britton very kindly donated the 12 pin multi-way connectors from his 1970 S4; here are photos of both the male (AMP 163031) & female connectors (AMP163032):
