Original Relay positions Elan Sprint

PostPost by: bloodknock » Tue Dec 17, 2013 7:00 pm

Does anyone have a photograph showing the original relay locations and functional identities for the 71 Elan Sprint? I have seen two or three photos in this forum but dont know which is original.
Thanks
Bob

Are you talking about the Headlight relays forward of the radiator on the LHS inner wing?

I have some pictures if you are...

I've been converting my car back to how it left the factory... here are the best pictures that I have found
ElanSprint_HeadlightRelays.jpg and

BonnetHinge_Body_DSC_0010.JPG and

That top relay (dipped beam) is pretty tucked under the bonnent hinge.

Here is an earlier car:

You should see the original mounting holes in the inner wing (fender).

I think one of those photo's of Phil's is of my sprint. Someone else asked the same question recently and as I had the engine out I could get a better picture. Not sure about original positions but I would think they are.

Make sure you face the can of the 6RA relays forwards, this helps reduce water ingress in through the baseplate? Always ensure the connectors face backwards.

The original relays were quite easily contaminated by UK weather otherwise.

Phil.

Mine were mounted with the connectors straight up when I bought my car. Every single one had rusty water in it.

Can anyone tell me where the correct home is for the Air Horn Relay?

I have the correct red relay and Air horns that came with the car (the car was in boxes when i got it) but i also found a pair of snail horns that look original, so i suspect the air horns where bought at some point as an Upgrade.

Thought it would be better tagging my question to an old thread rather than starting a new one.

I believe air horns were a dealer fit rather than a factory fit (Happy to be corrected though).

In which case there's unlikely to be a "correct" position

According to Tim's excellent web site the Air Horns are listed as Options (but that doesn't mean the dealer didn't fit the option selected a bit like the Electric aerial)
