Windscreen Washer Bottle

PostPost by: AHM » Thu Dec 12, 2013 5:44 pm

Hi All,

I'm guessing that the 'D' shaped Tudor washer bottle and Lucas pump fitted to my S4 are not original - open to suggestions that they are!

So I ordered a round Tudor washer bottle and bracket, expecting it to be like the coolant bottle. It is, but it is only 6 1/2" high and 3" diameter.

What is correct for the S4?

Also for anyone else buying said bottle. Watch out the stainless bracket and bottle that I bought are clearly marked made in China on the box, and the photos are taken so that you can't see that the bracket obscures the Tudor on the bottle.

D shaped washer bottle could be from a Mini.

Well spotted Jason!

Ooops The 'D' shaped one is indeed a Mini washer bottle from my old Mini - The one on the S4 was a Lucas washer bottle. Like this one

but with the pump not mounted on the lid.

For what it's worth my bottle (presumed original) is 8 3/4" tall and 3 3/4" diameter with Tudor Accessories moulded in around the top, the pump was originally mounted in the top but has long since disintegrated and been replaced by a remote pump. No doubt that other cars will have something different and you will have to draw your own conclusions as to what is correct for yours.

Roger's bottle is exactly the same as the one fitted to my S4, and like his the top mounted pump fell apart long ago to be replaced by a succession of short lived remote pumps. I've retired the bottle and cage to my box of "original but no longer funtional" parts and replaced them by a similar but slightly smaller one that came from Matty's (iirc) a few years ago. The pump is now mounted under the cage and seems to be quite happy there.

I have the same one as Roger and Stuart have in their S4s. They are very hard to replace, and are also fitted to the Mk 2 Lotus Cortina. I've seen a good one change hands for ?200 !!

Thanks All,

It doesn't look too hopeful then. I was hoping just to get the bottle the same as the radiator - doesn't look like that is available either.
