Have you invested in a copy of Brian Buckland's Elan Rebuild Book. It gives quite a lot of advice on wiring. As far as I am aware you can only make various earth link connections to the rear of the dash before offering it up to the car to make all the loom connections.

James, I may be tackling this soon. Does your wiring include the seat belt light and the wiring that goes to the seatbelt stalks? Or the push button that resides in the driver's side under dash trim piece that tests the 'fail' light for the brakes?
Thanks.

I replaced the wiring loom using a new (3 parts) harness from British Wiring Inc IL (708) 481 9050. My car is a Canadian spec' car and BW had several different Elan harness options. The only issue harness had was it needed a small series of grounds added to the panel instruments. Everthing else was perfect and an exact replacment. It did have some additional wiries for option not on my S4, However i cannot remember what they where or the colors of the wires, I can sent you a link to the pictures if it would help.

Hello,

i am thinking to replace the wiring loom of my Elan Sprint LHD, DHC, 1971, originally Federal, but now a mix of european and american standard.
I would like any advise where to buy the best wiring loom.

The problem is to choos the best supplier and the version of wires.
1. Actual wiring loom is original and working well, but in some part modified from previous owner in to an non original way. Some wires are without original colors, many new connectors because he cut the wiris in many points. He put the starter solenoid inside under the dash, the relais somewhere in different position, fuse box with 4 fuse instead of two, and so on.

2. my car was originally FEDERAL, so LHD and DHC; actually it has the original fail safe headlight system (microswitch at the valve under the dash); i re-installed the original side marker light on the front bumper and ont he rear side ( i found that on the rear side of the boot there was new fiberglass to close the hole); the front side light are installed (Federal was without), the rear light are as european standard so Amber and Red colors and not full red working with one lamp only. I have the original used special Lucas Box DB10 as spare.

3. I have the 3 warning lights on the dash but the fail brake doesn't work because i don't have the sovie device on the brake dual master cylinder

4. the burglar alarm has been remouved

5. a electric fuel pump on the boot is in but not correctly wired becouse if i switch on the deep flashing light on the sterring colomn, the pump works.

6. no cigar.

7. actually the alternator is installed (i don't know which tipe) but i still have the original dynamo without the control box and a new alternator Lucas as spare.

8. the rocker switch for hazard light is installed on the second line of switches as standard.

So my car is a mix between federal and european; if I buy a federal wire i have to modify it, if I by a european wire i also have to modifiy it. What can i do?

thank you.

James, I didn't get all the pics the first time around (Holiday stuff and all) so, going back to get the others, I noticed "Access has Expired". Any way you can 'open the door' again?
Thanks
