hello all,
had my plus 2 chris neil cabriolet a while now, and although up and running ,"on the road",
it is in need of tlc , I have bought a new distributor ,lucas 41747A 43dm4 and lucas ab14
amplifier package , however with no wiring diagram !!! , and non forthcoming from supposedly
reputable supplier.

So can anyone help , please
wiring between dizzy and amp is straight forward , But there are 4 wires from the amp' I cant work out

two long , plain white (female amp connector) and a white with black trace (male amp connector)
two shorter , both white with black trace , one bullet connector and one male amp connector

I would guess the longer wires are to the coil ?
ballast resistor ?
and the shorter wires to the tacho ?

I'm very hesitant to have a guess and risk frying the amp

O rats, I kept a copy but this website limits uploads to 2Mb each.

Lucas Fault-Diagnosis Service Manual is a bit too big.

It mentions the OPUS system and how to test it and has a similar diagram to the one above, but alas does not show the wiring colours, so it doesn't help much.

Just Google LucasFault and the manual will come up.

i will post some pic's of my car soon , hopefully before going to the classic car show at the nec this sunday.
however my ignition is not the opus type, its later, i have chased suggestions offered so far, but not got a difinative answer yet !. i believe its similar, or the same , as fitted to some Esprit and excel cars

Update - Basically the notes I received when I fitted the amp\distributor & slimmed down the instructions.

The amplifier receives the negative 12v supply through its casing so it must be fixed to a part of the car which is earthed.

The 12v ignition supply connects to the plain white wire to power the electronics inside it. (the positive side of the ignition coil may be supplied through a ballast resistor on your vehicle so its probably best to take power from the battery side of the resistor so you get the full 12 volts.

The negative side of the ignition coil then connects to the white/black wire from the amplifier. The switching current then comes from the white/black amplifier wire. Then just plug the cable in from the distributor to the amplifier so the distributor can control what the amplifier sends to the coil.

Use strobe light to reset the engine timing.

The only thing left to add was that we didnt swap the original weights over on the distributor & this caused it to overheat on the M5 badly weakening the head gasket (now deceased). Fitting the original weights (& retightening down the head) brought a difference of 6 degree's, requiring retiming to be done."
