I am keen to further sort the instruments on my 130/5 +2. I have no clock- a black faced ammeter is in the spot.
Does anyone have a grey- faced smiths clock that they can spare?

I may be wrong but isn't the correct clock in a Plus 2 a Kienzle?

Searching around a bit here I found this description of one for sale a while ago:

Keinzle clock - 50ish mm red hands centre adjustment (need to check if working)

Note the miss-spelling of Kienzle in the listing so it was a bit hard to find. Unfortunately the photo's in some other archive posts are not available any more.

A search on eBay UK for "Kienzle clock" shows a few possibilities for you. Maybe someone can confirm the face and bezel design details and hole and / or bezel diameter as there are slight differences between the offerings. This one looks pretty close, although there is the usual diameter confusion? You may be able to use the bezel from the ammeter to get a better match?

Sorry, don't know more details on the clock as my early dash Plus 2 did not have one. I take it you have a voltmeter installed as well? I believe the cars were changed from Ammeter to Voltmeter (Battery Condition) in conjunction with the alternator upgrade. If changing the existing ammeter wiring, be very careful as it is carrying all of the charging current from the alternator/generator and is a potential fire hazard if not replaced in a robust manner. The voltmeter wiring is much safer as it does not carry the charging current.

Not sure about this one - my first +2S/130 and the workshop manual show a clock with a trip type adjustment, I mean a knurled knob sticking out of the underdash trim. Unfortunately I didn't note what my first +2 had. All the K clocks I've seen have a plastic knurled knob in the centre of the dial face to adjust, including the one in my early +2S/130 (with +2S dash).

Russ - PM me (so I don't forget) - I may have a Smiths clock with the flat bezel and remote adjust - you'll need a hole in the underdash trim like the trip of the speedo.

This is like the one in my +2 that stopped working about a month ago! Couldn't find a Kienzel replacement so bought a new Smiths one 'til I can get it fixed. This one is for sale, but may not work They don't come up for sale too often. May be ok to put in if you want the authentic look.

Thanks for the help fellas. I am nonplussed that those didn't show up when I searched flea bay!
I do struggle to convince myself that the background is grey in the photos of the eBay clocks. Perhaps just the limits of the photos!

I may have what you are looking for. My car, an S4 Elan, had a clock installed very roughly. As the car should not have a clock, the new dash has no hole for a clock, my clock is spare. It is scruffy, and if you can supply more details of what you are looking for I will dig it out from my box of old instruments to see if it is what you need.

My other instruments are 50mm with a charcoal grey background, white markings and orange pointers.
The above consensus seems to be kienzle, but maybe smiths were used too.
Probably lotus used the first thing they had to hand ( or cheapest) so they could get back to building F1 cars!

My clock is a Kenzle, but is 60mm diameter. I had Look at a friends plus 2 yesterday, his clock is Smiths 50mm (2 inch) diameter.

Adding to the corpus of clock knowledge on here...

My 1969 +2S has the attached clock, made by Smiths. I cannot find a similar one anywhere. It is adjusted by a cable which loops down from the back of the clock to the edge of the dashboard.

EDIT: The model number is CE 3145/00, written in very small letters at the top of the face, almost out of sight.

All is seized up and unserviceable now, so I'm looking to replace/repair, or possibly just find a new electronic movement that I can get inside the 52mm casing. As I plan to isolate the battery when the car isn't in use, a battery-operated version would be ideal.

(PS If Matthew Vale is watching, that's a nice new copy of your book in the background! Good read)
