Hello,

I have removed my s4 rad and its fan and fitted clive boy cooling package.

Because of the electronic temp controller and because we used new thicker wires for the dual sucking fan i did not re use the old wiring.

So far everything is working a treat by the heat of the french riviera.

Now i would like to clean the unecessary wires. The old radiator probe was still hanging loose.

Now my question. If i take off that temp sensor ( which is not used) do i need to connect the wires together or do i need to isolate one from another?

It depends on whether that is a simple thermal switch inside or a temperature sensor that connected to a variable speed fan control unit.

But if you have removed the old fan and any prior control unit then it is probably OK to leave the connector of that pictured sensor open circuit, i.e to not connect them together. One of the wires might be live with 12 volts, so it might be best to wrap insulating tape around the whole plug, to prevent any of the wires earthing onto any metalwork.

It is the very original one. It was stuck inside my original rad with some tape around so it would not leak and held in place by some mettalic wire!

I think that has been referred to on the forum as an OTTER switch, which I think is the name of the maker.

For those still keeping the otter switch in their radiators, in an archived post, I listed a catalog number for a Volvo grommet that holds the otter switch tightly in-place... no need for baling wire to hold it in. Looks stock.

You may be better to keep the old wiring and use it to switch the new fan feed via a relay.

Keeps the car wiring standard rather than having disconnected live wires or unused / cut off dead ones.

I did use new wires cause we were insure the old wires would cope with the dual fan set up amp need.
So we choosed the safe way and used new wires.

Otherwise you re right, i agree with your point.

If only one new sucking fan was installed i would have kept the old wires.
