I kneel at the foot of the font of all Lotus wisdom again........71 Elan Sprint stripped nearly 40 years ago, now under rebuild. All parts packaged and stored at stripdown, but forgot to identify this object... any clues????
My guess, RFI Inductance for radio feed, any one got a better idea?

Beats me, I've not seen one of those before.

It could be as you say a radio interference choke. if so it is likely to have a ferrite rod in there.

Or it could be the ballast dropper resistor for an ignition coil of a Ballasted ignition coil system, but if so I would expect it to get a bit hot and that does not look like heat resistant cover.

Braided wires and what looks like coaxial plugs makes me think something to do with the radio antenna system do you have matching plugs / wires on anything else?

Sorry Rohan but they're not coax , just spade terminals...

Try measuring the resistance with a multimeter, if it is much higher in one direction than the other it stands a chance of being a diode.

I think you are right - I bought one yesterday and it looks somewhat similar to your gizmo.

Resistance 1.8 ohms both directions. Male spade one end, female at the other. Looks more andmore like a choke to me, unless someone knows better.......

No way into it. Its a moulded assembly, surely a fuse would accessible to change?

In the photo it looks like there is a slot cut into it at either end.

Add on inline fuse ? I remember new +2s had several of those in a bag along with a bunch of Nylok nuts as part of the PDI when prepping those cars for the showroom.

There is a fine slot but there appears to be no way into it. Ive tried limited gentle persuasion shot of destroying the thing. Ive passed progressively increasing current through it up to 30A (briefly)

Maybe it is a fuse & you just replace the whole thing, connectors and all, if the fuse blows.

A fuse with a resistance of 1.8 Ohms???

In-line choke for the radio.
