Sprint dashboard switch discoloration

Hello again Chaps,
Just pulled my dashboard switches out of storage. Shock, horror! Theyre very badly discoloured. Instead of black they are now a dirty grey colour. Has anyone experienced this? More importantly, has anyone got a treatment to fix it???
Also I'm going to need some Lucas relays, has anyone a cost effective source to recommend?
Thanks
bob

It has been discussed before, try a search for switch colour (color) or boot polish. I think some members tried boot polish.

You should be able to get Lucas relays in any motor shop, they haven't changed much over the years, I saw them in Halfords last week.

Hi Bob

Auto Glym Bumper Care is one of the best products for restoring plastics but use it very sparingly. Its also good for all under bonnet plastics, wiring looms(if you are that keen!), hoses etc You can also try a spot of brake fluid, the grey look is basically oxidisation so is not usually irreversible.

I used black carpet dye in a spray can. Sand them with 600 grit. The a few light costs. Worked great.

Mine came up a treat after using "Chemical Guys" "New look Trim Gel".
Only takes a tiny amount and brings the switches back to a nice black.
I applied it about 2 years ago and they are still perfect.

As always - no connection to Chemical guys etc
Bruce

PS It's great on just about all rubber and plastic parts!
PPS Do NOT use it on top of the dash - the refelections are terrible!!!

Hello Chaps
I've been working for the best solution for my panel switches and as the result of a conversation with elanfan who deserves full credit, believe I have the optimal solution. I tried black plastic restoratives, black nail varnish, brake fluid etc but finally settled on acrylic satin finish model spray. See pictures

Before

After

The switches were thoroughly cleaned with cellulose thinners and then flatted with 1200 WD
The Spray is Humbrol Acrylic Satin Black model paint.
Hope this is of use to someone out there.
Bob

Mine came up nicely with silicon brake fluid - NOT glycol based brake fluid. Many of the plastic and rubber treatment products are based on silicon and it seems to work well.
