Salut

Did a little dredging of the archives and the PC680 seemed top of a lot of people's lists. Like most I would like something of similar size as the intended original without having to cut the boot baseboard. I don't mind making up a bracket.

Are there alternatives?

Don't know if you have access to Halfords in France but their HB053 battery fits into the original space and allows boot board to fit without any modification.

I like the Odyssey 925 better. More cramming amps, more time cranking. Fits into the spot, bit you have to make a bracket.

Here in France I can get the PC925 and the Racing 35, which is exactly the same size. Any idea what the difference is?

I am going to follow very closely this post, as my seller gave me the battery of his Mazda Mx5 when I bought the elan... the original battery being dead . So the battery is not the correct one and is hold by temporary plastic strap...

I need a coorect good battery for my sprint!

No I do not know the difference. all the specs for the Odyssey are at www.odysseyfactory.com

Merci Tony. In fact I found the LMJ version for the same price. Negative terminal is on the left which should make the installation neater.

Good cranking power. If it lasts twice as long as a normal battery it's money well spent.

Keep a regular check on your battery for signs of leaks or gassing. Although batteries now are sold as sealed for life, and supposedly able to mount on their sides, I have not seen any type of battery were some of them have not leaked. Chances are you will have no problems, but please don't just fit and forget.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully I should be OK. It's a 'dry' battery but I suppose that doesn't mean it can't leak. The manufacturer states that any orientation is OK.

I would imagine I have in my possession 8 of the Odyssey batteries in my cars, my tractor, my trailer, charge packs. Have probably had 15 of them over the years. Plus have installed another 15 on other people's cars. Had the first two when they were called Black Panthers. I have never seen one leak. I could also talk to a friend of mine that sold thousands after I introduced him too Odyssey about 15 years ago. See of he has seen any leak.

I have one in my Formula Ford since I built it. I had a 100+mph off at turn 8 at Thunderhill to do some high speed farming. The fiberglass nose broke. The battery bracket pushed up and back, pushing the battery into the master cylinders. The masters punched three holes in the body of the battery exposing the plates and mats.

The Emergency tow crew pulled the car off the high center of the ditch and back on track. I climbed in, buckled up and the motor started on the first try. I drove it back to the paddock. Even with the holes punched in the case, the battery did not leak.

Before I pulled the battery out of the car a week later, I started the engine with it. Still no leak, just a feather of blue oxidation around the edges of the holes.
