Hi all,

First would like to thank all for the help. This Elan is now running and running fine. A little popping or back firing from the rear carb. it does have webers.

I seem to have adjusted that out of it. The water temp gauge does not work so I swapped it out with one from my other Elan. I dont know whether to send it to MOMA or buy a new one.

Anyways, the otter switch in the radiator is real loose and not a tight fit. In fact once the pressure started to build, it popped out.

Do you guys use some sort of sealeant to hold it in place? or do I just buy a new rubber peice.

Any help apprecated. I am trying to get this running enough to take it to the Glen on Friday.

I used silicon Aquarium sealant on mine. The stuff that glues glass together; not to sure what you would call it the States. Put a good bead around the switch push it in and leave it to set. I would recommend at least 24 Hours before using the car. Fitted mine like this 18 months ago and still fine with no leaks.

Hi Tony,
I think it says some where that the seal and switch should be assembled dry. I used fine wire to tie the otter switch in place, going between the terminals with the wire then one end over the rad top and the other end through the matrix, then join and twist together. Never had any problems.

With a rubber seal in good shape there should be no problem. However with current aftermarket Otter switch you can't be sure if they control the OD of the switch housing properly. I have secured mine using safety wire taking a turn around the boss for the connector shell and wrapping around the radiator header tank, never had a problem.

I didn't trust the seal on my otter switch and like the posters above I wired it in place. I found the wire cage from a champagne cork fitted and worked well.
