S1 boot light protectors

PostPost by: garyeanderson » Sat Aug 25, 2012 5:30 pm

Hi Richard

The mount spacings are dictated by the lamp assembly. So they are not the same, S3 have a center to center height spacing of 2.625 inches and the S4 lamps have a center to center height spacing of 3 inches, at least thats how they look to me.

Thanks Gary,

I thought it would be a co-incidence if they were the same. SJS list only one type but I presume that is for the S4.

Cheers - Richard

P.S. I have this image of you, measure in hand, going to the garage with Beau in close pursuit :)

Steve
Not necessarily, Bourne bodies were made with a grey resin so the inside of the boot (and engine compartment) would be grey as manufactured, still not painted though

Holes to attach lamp trim cover to the brackets are 42 inches apart and 2 and 1/2 inches up from the bottom. Make your own and save the time waiting. :)

Great, Richard! I will look for the material here and use your pattern. Thank you very much. Enjoy your vacation.

Type 26 registry says they were zinc and clear passivate finish? I thought they were black. I'm checking into have a pair made by my friend who has a sheetmetal business, but I'm not sure if it's cost effective given the availability from the 26 registry.

The pair from from 26/4045 is in this photo, it lead an easy life and was not subjected to the 30 years of outdoor storage on Long Island that the one I used to take the measurements from out of 26/4020. They are plated but they still rust. The S2 protectors were painted black and thats how they came out of a Elan that had 4 years of street driving here in Massachusetts, they had never been out of the S2 before I removed them. Anyone else see the Roadster protectors painted or plated differently?

As an aside - has the inside of your boot been painted?

Mine has never been painted and never will be painted

Hi Steve,

I couldn't trouble you for the dimensions of the canvas straps could I?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Mazzini,

The straps are 24mm wide and 440mm long (i.e. from centre of the buckle to the end of the clasp).

The clasp is identical on both sides.

Found these straps on eBay, they're a few inches longer, but it doesn't show once they're in place.
