Rummaging through my parts manual I see that (apparently) federal cars from chassis number 1363 had a single vacuum cylinder and a rod linking the lights, non federal cars had two independant vacuum cylinders. Question 1 is 'is this the fail safe version - ie lights are held down by vacuum pressure?'

Thats fine and dandy, but I was looking at a UK Plus 2 on Thursday (late ish body; possibly 1972) which also had the single cylinder and rod operation. My parts manual is March 1971, so the second question is when did Lotus fit single vacuum cylinder and rod operation for the lights to home market cars? With Chapmans grasp of production engineering and cost control I'd of thought that it would be pretty quick after the federal cars were built and the system proven......

The single unit is the failsafe one [vacuum holds the lights down]

Yes - circa 71/72 was the change over point from non to fail safe lights. It may well have coincided with the S130 launch.
