Just a quickie,thought about it last night in bed,when you changed the points,did you reconnect the points wire to the right side of the insulator,it's easy done to get it wrong and will never spark if it's on the wrong side...

Page 6.0 includes a note about the insulating washers & spacers at the end of the points spring. Not sure if that's what John has in mind, but they are illustrated in the workshop manual.

The bracket that holds the points spring also connects the wire to the points,the bracket itself is earth,which is no good,the wire needs to be connected to the end of the spring and insulated from the bracket (earth)...

Page 6.0 test 6 Note Older points assemblies, particularly two-piece assemblies, utilize insulating washers and spacers
on the end of the point?s spring. If these are not in place and properly oriented the points will behave as if
they never open. This will prevent a spark from being produced.

The problem It would seem is that I had a bad earth from the dizzy.
