Slide Switch in Glove Compartment, what is it for?

I have noticed a slide switch that is located in the very back of my glove compartment on a 1969 SE Elan. The car had an aftermarket 8 track under the dash so I thought it had something to do with that. But in disassembling the dash, I noticed that the switch was wired into the main harness and was factory. I asked several local S4 Elan owners and no one knew what it did if they knew that it was there at all. Anyone know what this switch does? Thanks Allan

That is the immobiliser switch. Ken.

Hi Allan,

It's a factory fitted low tech' kill switch ant-theft device.

They are known to give problems and are often bypassed because as a security device they are a very poorly kept secret.

That is the immobiliser switch. Ken.

Everything works normally when this switch is in the "security off" position, when in the opposite position the ignition key switch activates the horn instead of the starter motor when in the start position.
