Radio Fitment

If I remember correctly the radio has to be installed from the rear of the dash before the dash is installed. I can't see any other way of installing it, am I correct?
This is the original radio I am talking about.

Keith,

I presume you are referring to an original spindle fit radio? If so assuming the radio will slide into the hole all you need is a couple of simple brackets to pull up against the rear of the dash as you fit and tighten the facia. These can be fiddled in and tightened onto the spindles with the dash in situ.

If the dash is a bit thick for the spindle length it would be a simple matter to bend up some stepped brackets thus allowing the radio to pull through a bit before it tightens.

Hope that helps

My radio has two brackets which attach to the side of the case & then the facia & spindles pull the radio up to the dash against these brackets. I'll take a photo & post it.

Keith,
No, that is not correct. The radio is fitted after fitting the dash. You need three components to fit the radio. A front surround that is fitted between the facia of the radio and the body of the radio (makes the radio bigger than the hole). Two right angled metal brackets, that are attached to the sides of the radio (look for screw holes 30mm back from the front of the radio).
The radio is manouvred into position, with the side brackets attached, and the facia removed. The surround and the facia are then fitted to sandwich the dash between the side brackets and the surround. I also glued some medium density closed cell foam to the top of the heater plenum to support the rear end of the radio.
I made the side brackets by trial and error, as they never seem to come up for sale. If you cut a slot into one side of the bracket, rather than just a hole, they become adjustable.
Regards,
Colin.

PS. Keith, sorry about reiterating what the other guys have said, started this this morning,
then went to the beach and then posted without looking for other replies.
