S3 Wiring - Dynamo

Hi All,

The S3 wiring diagram says "Comp. where fitted" next to the dynamo.

What is comp.? is it what the little black wire is for, that piggybacks the main dynamo terminal?

It doesn't look critical and it has been taped-up.

Thanks,

Simon

I have always thought "comp" was a "typo" for Cond? Condenser? (or something :? ) referring to the

"1.0 MFD suppressor connected to the "D" (larger) terminal" (in the w/manual under radio suppression) and the earth symbol represented "earthing clip secured to one of the mounting bolts"

I soon fitted an alternator, so haven't looked back...until now.

If you look at the S4 diagram it's "horn comp when fitted".

...presumably meaning "horn compressor"!

I agree, it looks meaningless and is probably an error. I think it's one of those many little difficulties found in the workshop manual wiring diagrams, but try looking at a modern car diagram if you want early admission to a psychiatric hospital!!
What worries me is that there are only two fuses, one of which does just the cigar lighter and horns, the other does all the rest and loads of other circuits aren't fused at all. Looks like a recipe for trouble to me.

Not necessarily an error if the car is fitted with air horns!

Thanks for suggestions.

The wire that I have is probably from a radio suppression capacitor.

I suppose that the air horn compressor is located by the dynamo, but what about the wiring?

from the S4 wiring diagram, I don't know if the S3 ever had air horns

The S3 wiring diagram has the same reference for "Comp when fitted".
