Hi and welcome

Not heard of these guys but conversion is ?345.
Vintage Wireless are always at the shows but a IPod conversion is around the ?350 mark so also not cheap.

Or this is cheaper: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RediRad-12VN- ... 500wt_1054

Is there any information available as to what make and model of radio's were fitted to Elans when they where built ? Did any cars leave the factory with radio's fitted at the request of the prospective new owners ?

My 68 S3 has a Phillips radio that looks old enough to be of similar vintage but is there any way of finding out if it is likely to be correct ?

The radios are shown in the back of the parts manual

I believe there was a Philips Turnalock, a Pye Major and I can't remember the other one.

This radio was in my 1970 S4 SE when I bought it.

Radiomobile ltd. Model No. 1070

Two other photos at the above link, Unit number is written on a piece of masking tape, I'd say it was factory installed.

I have a Tadpole conversion in my Sprint. I have had it for about 3 years. Looks very good. MP3 connection works fine, tuning is a bit tricky on the radio part and I could do with more volume but given how it looks, these niggles are minor. They tell me that they now use better boards. Here?s picture.

mmm ... cant get the English language version up.
Most old German radios have FM and some have a six pin Din hole on the back.

I have something similar, looks/works great- mono, FM, and my son plays his ipod/iphone/games console through the speakers- bit disconcerting for passers by when Call of Duty is on full blast!

Looks like a Motorola - right?

I never had a radio in my S2. So I want to ask a (silly?) question: Where are speaker(s) installed?

I think under demister grill so you can listen to all the bits of grit & rubbish dance around to the sounds of the 60s. Happy new year all Curly 1964 S2 26Rr

Yep ? it?s a Motorola. Speakers are in the doors, roughly in the gap between the hinges.

My S4 FHC has a grill in the middle of the rear parcel shelf that looks like a speaker was mounted under it. From memory there wasn't an actual speaker there when I bought the car in 81 or 82 but then again there wasn't a radio either. Nothing in the door panels.

I was thinking about this, but I'm afraid the speaker could be very exposed and get damaged in wet conditions.

My 69 S4 SE has a single speaker in the middle of the vertical panel at the rear.. It has a slightly rounded rectangular chromed mesh grill. There is a three sided black hardboard type piece in the boot that protects the rear of the speaker.

There seems to be a lot of variation, so maybe it was a dealer fit.

My S3 Coupe had a central speaker just above the radio facing upwards through the crashpad and stero speakers fitted behind the panelling of the side walls behind the seats.

The cavity there near the rod door frame strengheners makes a nice sound box cavity.
