Black and silver horn push badge

...yes the fabled badge fro the Triumph boss which seems to go for frankly silly money on Ebay
Mine is crazed, I mean really crazed, and whilst I am not averse to a bit of patina this is going to spoil my resto.
Does anyone know of a source of good repro versions - I have seen the yellow and green ones and they are so 'wrong' in terms of font etc. that I couldn't live with it.
Alternatively does anyone have any suggestions as to how I migh 'improve' my existing badge? Was thinking Captain Tolleys crack cure or something? Was even thinking that the windscreen chip type repair might work?
...it does not seem too far removed to think that a 'new' badge might be re made using one of those resin kits which used to be all the craze for making key rings and paper weights - just a thought.

Hi Jono,
I was searching for a horn push badge for "a certain Motolita" wheel whilst at Donington.
Matty had black & silver ones to fit that wheel at 5GBP.
I wanted a yellow/green one & will phone Clive this week to get one from the stock which they didn't have at the show.
If its of any help & I can take a photo & take some measurements once I have one in my "grubbies"
Cheers

Is it not possible to dismantle your one and replace the black and white logo? - or is it the clear plastic that's too cracked?
I saw green/yellow horn pushes on a stall at Donington - about ?50 -but which stall? Matty I think, May have been CN (sorry- should have been more attentive).

If this is what you are after, I happen to have one sitting in my desk draw doing nothing. If it would help your restoration let me know via PM or email. I would rather it went to an Elan enthusiast on here who will use it properly - loudly and often!
It came off a 1971 Sprint with the earlier type steering wheel boss.

Tim, could you possibly check all your other drawers and see if you've got another one?
The one on my car is all I could find at the time it's green and yellow and came from CN. I think it's from a more recent Lotus (Elise?) and sort of fits a Chapman wheel but has never looked right ....it's better than nothing.
I do watch Ebay and while I don't mind paying a sensible sum I will not pay ridiculous prices for things.

Hi
Have a look at: elan-f15/http-www-classicbadges-com-t13810.html?hilit=%20horn
Although the website is not working anymore; but if you search on the internet they may still be around?

Jon,
Did you make any progress with this?
My horn button is also crazed, not too badly, but I'd put some effort into improving it if possible. It seems like an item for the Winter-projects list. The eBay prices are truly amazing, but I'm always delighted to see that it's not just me who gets hosed buying stuff for waaaay too much.
I can't track down the Classic Badges website. It is possible to get a Triumph button (much cheaper) and swap the emblem over?

The problem is that the badge (insert) seems to be nearly as expensive as a complete horn push.
I have been on the lookout for 8 years now but will not pay these crazy prices.
I know, the market dictates etc etc ..........

Nick
Hi Nick,
It's one piece of clear plastic, the emblem is moulded and painted on the reverse side.
Here's my shattered one when I was in the process of trying to repair it. The finished item was passable at a distance but I ended up buying a replacement anyway - before they became rediculously expensive.........

Hi Guys, I just purchased a kit that is used on the modern plastic head light covers that after a time, get glazed over. It polishes the plastic and then there is a clear solution that makes the remaining glazing disappear. If anyone has a glazed horn push, I would be happy to try it for free.

Hi Nick, I sent a PM with photos, that addressed your questions but it is not showing up as being sent. I'm going to try the kit on my wife's car and I'll let everyone know the results.
And I see your are in the Boston area. Let me know if the PM made it to you.
