Horn sounds

PostPost by: richard sprint » Mon Jul 11, 2011 7:48 pm

Following a complete rebuild I'm now tackling the snagging list, whenever I exert some pressure on the steering wheel the horn sounds, I've removed the push and the metal disc slides over the plastic collars - any ideas please?

There is a clamp down in the foot well on the column that has two nuts and a torq screw undo and pull the stearing wheel and shaft out a tad and re tighten clamp 40-45 ib.ft. torq so if front impact it will collapse and prevent the column going through your chest!!
This will prevent the outer column from earthing out on the inner column at the base of the steering wheel.
You can get new bushes for the column the bottom one is easy to do the top is a bitch if you have a lockable column

Yes I did the same thing and it works for some time but it came back. When the pencil was swapped it went away "Again". It will be interesting to see if yours "comes back" too?
