Is it possible (feasible) to remove/replace the tachometer with the dash in situ? I don't want to remove the whole instrument panel unless avbsolutely necessary just to have the tach polarity reversed and the gauge calibrated.

Yes ....bit of a PITA but take out the speedo first then it gives you some room to work.

Do you need to drop the steering column as well or will the gauge come out at an angle ?

Might well do that as the speedo needs work too. It jumps about all the time so I can't get a steady reading. I've removed, cleaned and lubricated the cable so it's not cable bind that's causing it. I might have to send both units to Speedy Cables for refurb and calibration. Anyone know typical costs? :?:

I've done it without but as I said it is a bit of a wrangle.

According to their website.......from ?55 for speedo and from ?65 for tacho (+VAT and carriage.)

I've removed, cleaned and lubricated the cable so it's not cable bind that's causing it.

Did you check the right angle drive as well ?

When I have had the speedo jumping like that in the past, it proved to be a faulty cable, even though it looked OK and felt OK and I had lubricated it like you.

Just pulled mine out today.
Didn't undo column or remove speedo.
Came out no problem but suspect it'll be a bastard to get back in.

Ralph.

Had my tacho out this winter, because of the bouncing that my pertronix ignition caused. No need for me to remove speedo or anything else, but then I have a LHD +2.. Although you do need some dexterity in your hands to remove screws and lamps...

I sent my tacho to Speedy cables, and I believe I paid 65 pounds. The electric stuff is simple, you just need to extend one cable and connect it to the coil.
