Graham,
Not sure about a '74 plus 2 but on my '72 plus 2 with non failsafe lights the vac switch is an integral part of the dashboard control and, therefore, situated behind the dash.

Graham, on my fail safe setup, the vacuum solenoid operated valve (is this what you mean) is /was mounted on the LH inner wing, vertical bit, ahead of the radiator.

When you remount, you might want to fit a filter to the port that allows atmospheric air into the vacuum actuator. This will stop dust and crud getting into the system (eventually into the engine intake). I just used a sintered air silencer, screwed directly into the solnoid valve.

Gerry

Hi Graham

In an earlier post about the radiator mounting I posted a picture and it also shows the position of the vacuum valve on my 74 +2S 130. It is 2/3 way up from bottom on the extreme right of picture. The switch as the other posts suggests is integral with the headlamp switch so that when either main or dip is operated the valve operates and the vacuum release and the lamps pops up

hope this helps best of luck

Bob

Hi Graham,
If you find that the solenoid switch is leaking or does not operate, I replaced mine with a far superior part for a quarter of the money.
Have a look at my previous post:

Hope it helps.

Thanks Jeff that's really helpful. A valve very similar to your new one was supplied in one of the boxes when I bought my car, with a receipt from Matty's. The threads are strange in that I can't get anything to fit, and Matty's couldn't really help when I phoned them. So I will probably go your route also given you've quoted the threads etc in your post.

Sean.

Hi Sean,
The chap who runs the company is really helpful, and quite a petrolhead. Runs a Noble.
If you need any help I am in Dorset too, so you could have a look at my elan if it helps.
Kind regards
Jeff
