Mark's suggestion above looks more practical for you than my long winded detail below. Anyway, as I have it typed up

Note Gerry's reply and the info in this post assume you are working on Plus 2 window lifts. The Elan window lifts are quite different from the Plus 2, and the info in the site archives can be confused between the two. I note this difference as you have posted on the Plus 2 forum, but you make mention of not using the black wire on the motor assembly, which I believe is a Lotus Elan issue, but not relevant to the Plus 2 window lifts.
Be very exact in ordering the part, as it is quite confusing to get the motor for the correct side of the car. I am assuming when you say 'driver's side' door you are in GB (reference to Chris Neil as a parts supplier?) and you are referring to the right side of the Lotus. If this is correct, you need to order the Chevelle motor for the LEFT SIDE; Lotus reversed the motor mounting side to side from GM. Also note that many North American based sites will call the GM left side motor the DRIVER'S SIDE in their listing! It gets very confusing if the Web site uses the same photo for both sides of the car, which many do.
The motor you are after was used in the 1969 to 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle. The same motor was also used in other GM models of the period; I used Chevelle call-up as suggested in an old archive post on this forum and it worked fine. As the Chevelle is a two door model, it relieves you of the confusion between left and right applications on the front & rear doors. If you are trying to source the motor from a junk yard/breaker, the link below provides a detailed application page for the motors, so you can perhaps hunt down a donor car in this manner. If the detail link doesn?t work correctly, you will have to navigate on the main A1 CARDONE site to the ?69 to ?71 Chevelle window motor to get to the detail page. Use the ?search by application? link.
http://www.cardone.com/English/club/mem ... NUM=42-13#The replacement motor I used was remanufactured by A1 CARDONE. Their main web address is:
http://www.cardone.comTheir part number(s) you are after are as follows. Be careful, as their site uses the same photo for both sides of the car.
42-13 - Left side of Chevelle; will fit RIGHT SIDE OF LOTUS PLUS 2
42-14 - Right side of Chevelle; will fit LEFT SIDE OF LOTUS PLUS 2
This link shows correct photos of the motors and the associated manufacturer?s part numbers. This is what I used for the call-up to get the correct side of the car. Use the parts finder for 1970 Chevelle.
http://www.partstrain.comI was able to buy the re-manufactured motor from a local retail parts supplier (I am in Canada) and they had the correct A1 CARDONE call-up for the 1970 Chevelle in their computer. Unfortunately (if you are in GB) it was sold with a core charge on the old motor, which is difficult in terms of shipping for you. You may wish to Google up an alternate supplier that may sell without a core charge or confirm with your local ?auto factor?.
Note the motors are sold without the gears; you have to use your old ones. Advise checking out gear condition and testing your motor on the bench before ordering to make sure motor is the problem.
Here is a generic window motor replacement instruction sheet from the A1 CARDONE site that might help with the job. The key instruction is how to constrain the regulator spring prior to removing the motor & regulator. The circular spring is VERY powerful and could cause injury or damage to the window, so look it over carefully before proceeding.
