Rob is still out there and still has the Hill Elan but I don't think he posts on here any longer.

...the car, as far as I'm aware, is still un restored.

Was the IWR garage situated in Woodhouse Road in Friern Barnet a mile or two from North Finchley?

The building looks familar (close to The Triumph' public house) I used to work in Woodhouse Road from 72 to 79 and the word Wood? seems to be on the wall...?

Thank's Mark - It's got me thinking that just down the road in Temple Fortune, Gerry Marshall had a garage (and this would have been around 200 yards from Henly's garage on the North Circular).

Recall as a penniless 18 year old walking in to Marshalls garage to view some exciting car and that GM was observing this unlikely customer from a distance with not a welcoming look on his face...

Left pretty sharpish!

They also had a showroom in East Finchley (in addition to the main workshop in Woodhouse Rd). It was from the showroom that I bought my Elan.

My '68 Elan +2 was supplied new by IWR. Don't think it had any mods though - unfortunately.

Is that him with Hill in the picture?

They did not run the showroom for long, just a year or so.

In the High Road, I don't recall exactly where. Probably near Leopold Rd.

I bought my car way back in March 1969.

Thanks for map - I used to live in Lincoln Road and do remember a second hand car sales outlet close to leopald, quite a modern airy showroom and deep frontage quite close to a parade of shops and Esso garage on the corner.

Unusual for someone to still own the same car they purchased over 40 years ago - you must enjoy it...

If I recall correctly Ian Walker had a moustache and was, shall we say, portly. Not the same chap in that photo Mark posted, I suspect!

I do when she is working.. Though it has spent quite a lot of time off the road for one reason or another..

Nearest thing I have to a wife...
She consumes all my money and
Every 10 years wants a new coat.

I looked at my invoice 3/3/1969, but Ian Walker's didn't bother to print stationery with the showroom address on it.

But looking at Google Street view I think the showroom was more south than I first mentioned, I know it was in among the shops, so I think it was probably on the corner of Beresford road, and is shown on Google as an Abbey bank.

This Natwest branch has been my bank since 1979 and lincoln road is opposite!

I recall changing from Barclays because I needed an overdraft of 2k to back a small business venture at the time, the only asset I had to my name was a 1963 3.8 E type jag that I had saved like mad to own by the age of 25 - the manager of Nat West on hearing I had this car suggested I take him round to see it - which as mentioned was just across the road.

On the strength of this he signed the overdraft and I had much to thank him for at the time - how things change in the business world - the good old friendly bank manager!!!

I later sold the etype to finance my current business now 27 years old!
