Electric Push Fan Recommendations

My S4 gets hot while sitting in traffic and I'm thinking it might be the fan. I was looking at it the other day and while its a 10" fan, the four blades are only 2-3" long and 2" wide. Maybe that's inadequate. If anyone has a fan that that they're happy with that is available in the US, I'd like to hear about it and get pictures if possible. Thanks. Dan

PS. I think my current fan came from RD Enterprises, but I don't see pictures of it on his site anymore.

Dan, my fan is a Hayden, obtained at Pep Boys, very similar to this:

I have the full width S3 radiator in my Sprint and the fan is either a 10" or 12" (car's not here to check) but it takes up the full width of the radiator (top to bottom).

Controller's the probe in the fins type, also a Hayden, from Pep Boys. I have the fan biased toward the exhaust side of the engine and I have NO problems with the engine getting hot. The highest it gets is 90 degrees C, sitting for a long time on a hot day.

Check out Summit Racing for a wide selection of electric fans & controllers. They offer complere kits for a 10" fan.

I can't recommend it because I don't yet have it, but I am planning to install a 9" or 10" Derale "Tornado" fan - size depending on what will fit my S3-style radiator. These are available from Summit Racing and probably other outlets. Frankly, one reason I like it is the dimensioned drawing that tells me exactly what I'm buying!

Or you could go to the scrappy and get the fan from a Citroen BX19 (or similar model from the same period). Cost about ?15 depending on the scrappy. It just takes one bolt to remove the fan and square housing assembly from the front of the car, after removing the grill with your fingers.

Several owners are using this fan with good results - It draws 11-12 amps at 13V, so you will need a relay. When my fan is working on a hot day I can stand next to the drivers door and feel a warm blast of air past my legs - now that's power! :D

Incidently - it's the FAN causing the warm blast! :lol:

Opps - just realised - You are in the States. Well, it might still apply if the BX19 was sold over there...

How much power is reasonable from the fan to draw? My current fan draws 7.4 amps. and blows 850 cfm. The dual fan option seems interesting, but I worry that it will draw too much power. I still have a generator.

The Derele's draw less current but also move less air, so if you go by the ratings, neither one will buy you anything over the fan you have now. Check out the fans on the Summit site for comparisons of current draw and CFM rating.

Hi. I think it's important to ensure that you're shifting air over as large an area of the rad as possible, and that when you're sat in traffic with the engine ticking over, with the wax thermostat fully open, you've got a decent flow of water through the rad. You may find that two fans, both running at half the speed of the single current one, will be more effective but draw no more current.

Spal fans have a good selection of low profile fans that have been used on Elans.

The core height of the downflow radiator is about 10", so a 10" fan would be appropriate.
I have a crossflow radiator with a 12" core height and a 12" fan. This combination has provided me with worry-free cooling in the warm climate of my location.

The Spal fans (10" & 12") draw about 7 amps.

I bought two Procomp fans from the US in 2007 and have them fitted as pullers on a full width radiator. You will need to move the radiator 1 inch forward to get them in easily.

I bought them delivered for under 30 pounds sterling when the exchange rate was in our favor.

There is nothing --I repeat nothing-- like a Cyclone. 10", amp Draw of 5 Amps at Full Speed, 1100 CFM High Air Flow.

From 7" up. I am really happy with this product!

Yes they are two 10?s in my Plus 2. I probably over killed!

I forgot to mention that, as you may know, many overheating problems are not related to heat but to voltage (voltage stabilizer), faulty sending unit (replacement is very cheap), and /or defective gauge.

Carlos, How did you wire the 2 fans in? I currently have a temp driven switch and manual switch going to one fan through a relay. It's looks like one is driving the other? Thanks. Dan
