tried all the straightforward things.. power is getting to the main switch but nothing works. is there anyone out there who fixes these ?
i am thinking maybe i'll use it as a decorative item in the dash otherwise, rather than throw it.

Hi Rich,
My original radio packed up when I was just finished installing it back into the refurbed dash. The LW preselect button stuck on when I set a station into it and it would not come back out.Curses later I had the radio out again and I sent it to a guy called leister Moon, who's name I got from someone I phoned after a google session. They could not fix it but recommended MR Moon. 10 days later and ?70 lighter it was back and working. Leister offered a few options of FM conversion and Ipod connection etc also if required.

Hope this helps. I have his tel No somewhere if you cant find him.

Hi Rich

Vintage Wireless or the obvious choice but they are not cheap.

174 Cross St, Sale, Cheshire M33 7AQ Tel. 0161 973 0438

If I was you I would just refit it to keep the original look, when the engine is running you will not be able to hear the radio over the roar.

Twin Webers = Sweet music :D

Thanks Alex,
if you have Leister's details i would be very grateful .
With all the tinkering we're doing on the elan it would be good to have a little music & i was thinking about how an ipod connection could replace the headset jack on the front of the Pye

Not sure how he does it Rich as I did not bother with it. The FM mod could be good though.Helps get rid off lecy noise (interfnce) thro the speekrs.
I just looked for the invoice for my repair and it turns out to be one of the selection of receipts I sent to Carol Nash for aggreed value. They promptly lost the lot!!!!!!

I will see if I can turn up his info for you.

I found one reference to Lester Moon saying his company is "Vintage Radio Services" in Bristol.

Then I found another reference to "Vintage wireless" which Jason mentioned, but worryingly it refers to the "former Vintage Wireless Company of Bristol".

So perhaps he's no longer around :(

Thanks guys.
well , looking at it , to get FM stereo with my +ve earth polarity looks like ?350 plus vat so I think Jason's got the right idea .... just have it in there for "looks" .
Anytime we fancy some music we'll just stick a ghetto blaster on the back seat ... there should be enough room for a small one . Maybe some ipod speakers even ..

hi Rich

U R not far from me I am near Chelmsford. Also doing up a +2 at the moment. If you want I will have a look at the radio 4 you. Will give U an opinion on problem then you can decide what 2 do. Do you have the exact model number of the radio it is probably on the back somewhere.

regards

Bob

Ever thought about a 60s or 70s Blaupunkt or Becker?
They have FM and a din on the back for the ipod connection.
You can also switch and swap the buttons and knobs.

I used these people for my 1970 ITT Radio - works a treat...in mono. ?30 for the radio and..er.. not much for the connection.

I can have my Radio 2 and 4, and my son can have his stuff. It IS a bit strange when he plays his shoot them up games on his PSP through the speakers.

I did the same, a Blaupunkt with pushbuttons, FM and AM, and iPod socket. It's mono only, but switchable for +ve or -ve earth.

You also get the footy on Radio 5 Live. I know the exhaust note sounds good, but there are other priorities :)

AM interference is a bit of an issue with my installation. Also the radio is from '69 so not exactly "period" if you're a purist.

just found this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Auto-Radio-MP3-CD ... 2c537bb41b

and if you translate the ad (thanks Google translate) they'll add an ipod lead for 23 euros to most old radios (I think...need a proper translate from a Greman speaker)

mmm... just noticed it's 15e for postage... that's 41Euros mmm

Sorry this is in German again but maybe you'll find it helpful anyway:

http://www.ts-hense.de/html/radioschaltung.html

The picture shows the DIN plug from the rear. 5 is ground/earth, 4 could have 12 volts. This sort of connector can be found on Becker radios from the 60s and 70s. It's typically covered by a black plastic cap.
