Pop Up lights height adjustment?

PostPost by: M.J.S » Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:47 am

The pop ups on my +2 don't close flush with the body, otherwise they work fine.

Is there any adjustment anywhere to lower them about another third of an inch when down?

I took off the front grille and had a look but couldn't see anything that looked like an adjuster.

Thanks

Mark.

Hi

There is a rubber stop that you can screw in and out

Thanks Jason. Whereabouts is it exactly on a 1972 model? Cheers.

Here is a pic of mine, the rubber cap is missing from the up position stop this side, the down stop is behind the lamp. The lamp is shown in the down position.

If you push the pod up and look through the grill you will see it where the arrow is pointing.

My car is a 1968 non fail safe.

It might not be the stops. If the vacuum pod hasn't been installed correctly the rod that pushes / pulls the lights up / down may either be castching somewhere or be to long! I had real problems with mine when I had to fit a new pod many years ago after a friend borrowed the car and parked it against a dry stone wall after losing it on ice. It required a new fibre glass nose cone grafted on.

It is also worth checking the pivots, they can seize, completely shear or wear very loose, on mine I had to drill them out and fit threaded inserts.

The other problem I have had with mine is at the MOT where with the engine at idle even with both lamps in contact with the stops they vibrate slightly, therefore the guy says he can't check the alignment and fails it. after some "discussion" he did are to re-check it with the lamps permanantly up and a piece of cloth wedged between the pod and body.
